Canthius Solidarity Donations

As a publication with a commitment to equity in the literary arts, we’ve been thinking about how we might better support organizers and organizations whose work promotes justice and dignity for our Black, Indigenous, POC, trans, and queer contributors. While the arts play an important role in shaping public culture, we must also work beyond cultural institutions in service of broader social movements and organizing efforts.

We’ve been inspired by the recent fundraising efforts of magazines like Augur, Room, Plenitude and others in support of Black Lives Matter and would like to follow their lead by permanently building financial support for community organizations and social movements into our publishing plan.

We will set aside 50 copies of each issue for readers who donate $15+ to any of the initiatives listed here or shared through our social media platforms.

We hope that this list accurately reflects the ways sexism, white supremacy, colonialism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, and other systemic oppressions are interconnected. This list is just a start: it’s not exhaustive, is constantly evolving, and necessarily reflects the limited networks and perspectives of our Ontario-based editorial board. We therefore welcome suggestions to info [at] canthius.com

How it works

  1. Read about the organizations here and choose one to donate to. This is the hardest part and involves some time and reflection on your part.

  2. Email info [at] canthius.com with the subject “Solidarity Donation” with proof of donation.

  3. We’ll respond with gratitude and will mail a copy of the current issue to a Canadian address of your choice.*

*Once we’ve reached 50 donations, we’ll make an announcement on social media indicating that the initiative’s goal has been met for the current issue.
